Michael Hischer’s beautiful and meditative kinetic sculptures exhibit a curious harmony with their surrounding landscape. Their sharp, industrial form combined with bright, processed colour is contravened, as its quiet movement reflects the patterns of nature.
Made from stainless steel and aluminium, Hischer’s works are accurately weighted and finely balanced. Moving elements are attached centrally to axles by groove ball bearings, and the slightest breeze will set their wings in motion, allowing the mind to focus on the way they draw in space the passing of time.
Michael Hischer (born 1955) studied sculpture in Hanover and at the University of the Arts in Berlin. In 1991, he received scholarships from the Karl Hofer Society in Berlin and the Werkstatt Schloss in Wolfsburg. Since then, he has exhibited widely in Germany, Spain, and the UK, and his work can be found in public and private collections across Europe and the UK. Michael Hischer lives and works in Betzin, near Berlin.
