Sir Anthony Caro OM CBE RA was born in 1924. After studying sculpture at the Royal Academy Schools in London, he worked as an assistant to Henry Moore. He came to wider public attention with a pioneering solo exhibition at the Whitechapel Gallery in 1963, which established his pivotal role in the development of twentieth-century sculpture. Throughout a long and distinguished career, Caro has produced a varied body of work which has continually challenged and redefined our conceptions of what sculpture is. He has exhibited his sculpture across the world and is represented in all the major international collections of contemporary art. With major projects destined for Park Avenue, New York, the Museo Correr, Venice and the Museum Würth, Künzelau (Germany) and forthcoming exhibitions in Jubilee Park, Canary Wharf and the Yale Center for British Art, New Haven (USA), his indefatigable energy and creativity shows no signs of slowing down.
