The monolithic and sculptural silhouettes of Jenifer Jones’ stoneware pots and urns create a characteristic focal point in the landscape here at Roche Court Sculpture Park. To commemorate the start of the summer, this week we have sited a collection of Jones’ pots in the garden by the design house, shaded under the awning of the old apple store.

4 new stoneware pots, made this year, sit amongst 6 other intricately detailed vessels. The works give the impression of tradition, ancient workmanship and design - a language that Jones sustains and extends through her work. We all think the works look great in their new location.

Jenifer Jones established her distinguished reputation as a craftsperson in 1980, when she first began to make her iconic large stoneware pots for which she is now well-known. These are hand-built and decorated with finely scored geometric designs. The urns are high-fired to produce a range of dark, metallic colours. Jones has exhibited with the New Art Centre since 1995 and had her first museum solo exhibition at City Art Gallery, Leeds in 1990. Jones has also exhibited her work multiple times with The Scottish Gallery, Edinburgh and at the Victoria & Albert Museum, London in 2007.
