Sebastian Brooke is a Monmouth-based stonecarver, specialising in sculptures and lettering, often working on commission. In 2006, he began to record a likeness of extinct species by carving them stone. It has since formed the beginnings of the enormous project MEMO (the Mass Extinction Monitoring Observatory), a stone structure to be built on the Isle of Portland, part of the World Heritage Site the Jurassic Coast, drawing attention to the ongoing mass extinction of species worldwide.

‘while history is written in stone, the future is yet ours to shape’

His work is included in collections at both Oxford University and Harvard University.
