Nina Saunders works in a wide range of materials, creating sculptures that are humorous, yet quiet and contemplative. Her sculptural transformations of furniture, found objects and textiles subversively question our way of thinking about the function of domestic objects, and the world we inhabit.
Nina Saunders’ bronze sculpture, The Whirlwind is in the Thorn Bush, is sited outside the Design House in the Sculpture Park. The work was conceived as she listened to ‘The Man Comes Around’ by Johnny Cash. 'The Man Comes Around' is a quote from Revelation 6:1-2, and refers to John’s vision of the four horsemen of the Apocalypse (Death, Famine, War, and Pestilence).
