Allen Jones - New Works in the Park
Last week, two works by Allen Jones were installed in the Sculpture Park. Internationally recognised for his pioneering contributions to the Pop Art movement in the 1960s, and for works incorporating female figures, Jones’ practice has evolved and become more abstract over time.
Sabine and Blue Sprawl are excellent examples of his stylised and dynamic compositions involving figures in movement and performance.
Allen Jones has exhibited widely during his career and there have been four major retrospectives of his work: at the Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool in 1979, which then travelled to the Serpentine Gallery, London and to several venues in Germany; the ICA in London held a retrospective 1978 which travelled to the Fruit Market, Edinburgh and the Arnolfini, Bristol; the Barbican, London hosted a retrospective in 1995 which then toured worldwide with the British Council; the Royal Academy hosted a major retrospective of his work, from 13 November 2014 - 25 January 2015.
Jones' works are held in a number of major public collections including the Tate, the Museum Ludwig, the Warwick Arts Centre and the Hirshhorn Museum.
Visit Roche Court Sculpture Park and see the striking and elegant Sabine and Blue Sprawl. The park is open 11am-4pm, all year round.
