Salisbury-based artist Frances Marr creates works that are rooted in the environment. Drawing on memories of growing up on the Isle of Wight, she takes inspiration from the coasts of the UK, battered by the elements, and the open landscapes of Cumbria. Marr's vessels are smoke fired, where the clay has no glaze but takes on markings during the firing process. The smoke leaves carbonised shadows, emulating foreboding mists and dark, shifting skies.

Frances Marr exhibits widely across the UK, including group shows at the Hepworth Wakefield, 2019, Florence Arts Centre, Cumbria, 2020 and more recently at the Willis Museum in Basingstoke.
