Emilie Laurent

Drawing inspiration from earth, fire, sky, and water, Laurent allows the nature of her materials—along with free-flowing movement and the ambience of the moment—to guide her toward the completion of each piece.
She works in dialogue with the clay, allowing it to reveal the shape it wants to take. Her creative process is instinctive—a collaboration between her vision and the material’s willingness. She embraces this dynamic of push and pull, welcoming imperfections as part of each creation’s story.

“The creative process turns into a dance between control and surrender, each trace a spontaneous movement.”
—Laurent on her creative process

Laurent grew up in the Gabonese bush, whose influences still colour her work today. From 1996 to 1998, she studied at the Arts Appliqués in Bordeaux, then continued her training in illustration at the Saint-Luc High School in Liège from 1998 to 2001.

In 2018, she was introduced to cognitive trance and began incorporating it into her artistic research and process.
Her relationship with clay began in 2023, and several of her works are currently exhibited at the New Art Centre.
She now works alongside Eukeni Callejo at the Sadirac Ceramic School, where she is helping to launch a workshop focused on ceramic experimentation and research.
