The Design House in the walled garden at Roche Court is the latest addition to the exhibitions spaces at New Art Centre. This marks the fourth project with architect Stephen Marshall which began in 1998 with his design for the Gallery, which won the RIBA's Stephen Lawrence Prize. Taking the Garden Cottage as a starting point, Marshall has transformed and enlarged the original building to create exceptionally beautiful exhibition spaces which will be used to focus on modern and contemporary design.
This has been a welcome extension to the park, after finally being completed in late 2018 it has become a pleasant seclusion from the other gallery spaces. The largest of the gallery spaces at Roche, it is a unique blend of gallery and living space, with a featured kitchen, bedrooms, bathrooms and bootroom, all showcasing works varying from ceramics to paintings and sculpture. Artist's currently exhibiting include : Katie Walker, Edmund De Waal, Johannes Nagel, Ian Stephenson, Anton Alvarez and Hubert Dalwood.
