Anton Alvarez is a Stockholm- based Swedish-Chilean artist. He completed his Design Products MFA in 2012 atthe Royal College of Art, London. Alvarez originally studied cabinetmaking before completing an Interior Architecture and Furniture Design course at Konstfack, Stockholm. Alvarez's work focuses on the design of systems and the creation of tools and processes for producing products, objects and architecture. Alvarez work has been exhibited internationally including solo shows 'To plan the unexpected', Gallery Christian Larsen, Stockholm, Sweden (2017); 'Uppsala Darling' (together with Lisa Stenberg), Uppsala Konstmuseum, Uppsala, Sweden (2017); How Long is a Piece of Thread, Xue Xue institute, Taipei, Taiwan (2016); 'Wrapsody', Salon 94, New York, USA (2015); and 'Wrappers Delight', Gallery Libby Sellers, London (2014).
Alvarez's work can be found in public collections including Nationalmuseum, Stockholm, Sweden; The Röhsska Museum, Gothenburg, Sweden; and Statens Konstråd / Public Art Agency Sweden, Stockholm, Sweden.
Anton Alvarez's work 'Thread Wrapping Architecture' is on display in the gallery as part of 'The Most Real Thing: contemporary textiles and sculpture' at the New Art Centre from 15 September - 4 November 2018.
