(1927-2016) Born in Theydon Bois, Essex, Anthony Fry studied at Edinburgh College of Art, followed by Camberwell College of Art, where he was taught by William Coldstream, Victor Pasmore, and Laurence Gowing. He later taught at Camberwell and Bath Academy at Corsham alongside Howard Hodgkin, Peter Lanyon and William Scott.

As a young man his paintings of dancing figures, captured in vigorous strokes of earth colours, earned him the Prix de Rome in 1950, and were described by the art historian and critic John Russell as "one of the most individual achievements of British painting in the 1950s" (from the Telegraph obituary).

Fry was a prize winner at the John Moore's Liverpool Exhibition in 1957. He exhibited at the New Art Centre in 1963, 1967, 1970, 1973 and 1981. His work can be found in public collections including Arts Council of Great Britain; Contemporary Art Society; Government Art Collection; Tate and Saatchi Collection.
