Sadiq was born in Delhi in 1950. He initially studied painting at the Delhi College of Art before moving to the sculpture department. In 1975-77 he was awarded a National Cultural Scholarship by the Indian government and rapidly acquired a reputation as a distinguished sculptor.
In 1982 Sadiq moved to London with a British Council scholarship at the Slade School of Art. . This allowed him easy access to the British Museum and its Buddhist and Hindu collections and he also became very interested in African sculpture.
Most of Sadiq's sculptures are cast in bronze and derive from animal imagery and metaphor, combined with mystical signs and symbols. His love of colour is reflected in his use of different patinas and his use of texture and polished bronze.
