Kate Owen was born in Canada in 1963, and emigrated to England in 1983. Between 1989 and 1993 she studied Fine Art at Chelsea School of Art & Design followed by Goldsmiths College. During these four years she produced sculptural works which took her written short stories and prose as their source. Eventually these sculptures were honed to almost exclusively text, words and letters. This led to an apprenticeship with Richard Kindersley in 1994. She was awarded with a Crafts Council setting up grant in 1996, followed by numerous exhibitions and private commissions.
Kate Owen is self-employed and works in London.
