Julian Stair

(1955–)
Julian Stair is a potter, academic and writer specialising in commissions and site specific installations. His work varies in scale from the domestic to the monumental and is characterised by a subtle palette of greys, red and white in a mixture of stoneware, porcelain and brick clay. Over the last 30 years, Stair has exhibited internationally and has work in over 20 public collections. In 2004, he was awarded The European Achievement Award by the World Crafts Council and he received a Queen Elizabeth Scholarship to research the making of monumental ceramics at Weinberger's UK brick factory. His most recent project was the solo exhibition Quietus at MIMA, which in 2013 travels to the National Museum of Wales in Cardiff and to Winchester Cathedral.
